Adult Children of Aging Parents
JFSA Seniors Department works with Seniors and Their Families to help Navigate the Aging Journey.  Over the last few years we are working more and more with adult children( usually in 40’s and 50’s) who have parents in their 80’s and 90’s.  The relationship with their parents is complex and emotional. Our session will be calledThe Struggles of Adult children to  “Honoring Thy Father and Thy Mother”  We will begin with a Rabbinical  overview, then  present a short video which will  consist of interviews with three adult children, and three seniors who are living at home with community supports.   The video will  present several points of view.  Adult children  struggle with , “am I doing enough, am I doing too much, I am raising a family, working and taking care of a parent, it is too much,  My parents need to move but they are stubborn and it is causing lots of us to worry”   Seniors will talk about living at risk, children that give too much advise, and how it feels to lose decision making powers.       The video will be approximately 15 minutes,  followed by a half hour of commentary about the themes of duty, honor, respect and relationship.  Two JFSA staff will facilitate discussion and answer questions.
