Music of the Jews of Uganda
Among the Jewish communities of the world, the Abayudaya of Uganda are unique and so is their music, a tapestry of Jewish prayer and African melodies and rhythms. When he lived in Uganda, Lorne Mallin drummed and sang with the Abayudaya at their main synagogue in the village of Nabugoye Hill. In this session, you will be introduced to the community through a multimedia presentation and then learn to sing their music in Hebrew and Luganda, the main tribal language of Uganda, with the accompaniment of a live band.

Lorne Mallin of Vancouver began hosting monthly Hebrew chant evenings in 2004 as part of a two-year chant leadership training with Rabbi Shefa Gold.
